Afternoon Thunderstorms Bring Busy 24 Hours June 6, 2005 - At 1326 hours, Stations 7, 3, and 2 along with St. Mary's Station 9 were dispatched to Maple Way in White Sands for a dryer on fire inside of a residence. Engine 72 arrived on location to find smoke showing from a two story dwelling. The crew advanced a line into the 1st floor of the residence to find a dryer on fire with extension to the second floor. Engine 21 arrived on location an advanced a second line upstairs to check for extension while Tower 2 went to work on ventilation and Squad 7 used a thermal imager to check for extensions. Command held units from Companies 7 and 2 for a little over an hour. June 7, 2005 - In the early morning hours, Stations 2, 7, 6 and Charles Station 5 were dispatched to Harvest Grove Lane off of Sixes Road for smoke in the basement. En-route units were advised that the house had been struck by lightning. Chief 2 arrived on location with nothing evident from a single family dwelling. Engine 72 arrived on location laying a line up the driveway and advanced a cross-lay into the residence while Engine 21 arrived to pick up 72's line and pulled a second line to the front door. Command held units from Companies 2 and 7 with nothing found while Tower 2 checked with a thermal imager for any extension from the lightning strike. Units operated for approximately a half hour before returning to service. From the early morning hours of June 6th to the morning of June 7th, St. Leonard Volunteers responded to a total of 19 calls: 14 medical boxes, 1st due dryer fire, 2nd due box, 2 trees down , and a smoke investigation
